A Man Needs a Maid / Heart of Gold From Neil Young’s 1971 concert at Massey Hall. The record’s an absolutely fantastic picture of a superstar at the top of his form in an intimate and stripped down setting.
Ask a music scene micro celebrity
From a couple of years ago, but worth reading through again. Steve Albini gives very frank (as always) answers to any questions people ask about the music industry and his career… on a poker forum!? I guess he really dislikes Urge Overkill.
Another video that I missed when it was released, it feels like a real document of a music video era. I think Indoor Living isn’t given enough credit and is a gem of the Superchunk catalog.
Just finished watching Be Here To Love Me: A Film About Townes Van Zandt. It was fantastic and thoughtful but also brutal and sad. Steve Earle said about Townes: ”Townes van Zandt is the best songwriter in the whole world and I’ll stand on Bob Dylan’s coffee table in my cowboy boots and say that.”
Now that’s a horn section.
I’ll climb up on the house / weep to water the trees / and when you come calling me down I’ll put on my disease
I don’t know how I missed this 7” single version of Game of Pricks back in when Alien Lanes came out. It’s stunning how much it sounds like late-period GbV and how little it sounds like the band playing on Alien Lanes. Such is the benefit of production, I guess. I’m sure I’ll come back around to the original, but right now I am loving this version.
I should really watch Craig Ferguson. Maybe not quite as good as the original from Forgetting Sarah Marshall, but still great. I’d love to see a full length A Taste For Love.
Husker Du - Helter Skelter. From the Don’t Want To Know If You Are Lonely 12” EP. Dave Pirner guests.
